THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It has been decided that the Congress will contest in the Malampuzha constituency. The Bharatiya National Janata Dal (BNJD) had approached the Congress to reject the seat allotted to them following local protests. It is learned that the Congress will take back this seat. If Elathur seat is not given, they will not contest, said party president Adv. John John has said.

The decision of the party state committee meeting held in Thrissur was to go ahead with the demand for Elathur seat. Congress workers in the constituency had taken to the streets to protest against the allocation of seat to the Bharatiya National Janata Dal. The protesters alleged that seats were given to weak UDF constituents.

The Congress workers had alleged that Malampuzha was handed over to a constituent party to help the BJP. The party workers are of the opinion that the Congress is lagging behind in Malampuzha because it has to carry imported candidates. Congress workers, who staged protesting in Puthussery on the issue, had called a convention led by DCC officials.

The convention then passed a resolution calling on DCC General Secretary SK Ananthakrishnan to contest in Malampuzha. Congress workers have been protesting the issue at various places in the constituency since last night. It is learned that the Bharatiya National Janata Dal (BNJD) has given up Malampuzha thinking that it will not be able to keep up with the riots being waged by Congress workers in the constituency.
