NEW DELHI: BJP’s move to appease Jacobite church faction has witnessed a severe setback. The leaders of the church faction have returned from Delhii without meeting Amit Shah. The setback in the talks is due to not receiving any specific promise from the BJP central leadership on the church dispute.
Earlier it was informed to the BJP central leadership that a team of metropolitans and other office-bearers of the church faction led by Thomas Mar Gregorius—trustee of the metropolitan church will meet home minister Amit Shah. Ahead of the assembly polls, BJP’s state, central leaders and even union ministers have held talks with the bishops of the church faction multiple times.
The most important demand of the church faction was a conducive stand of the centre towards them in the church dispute issue. But the ruling party has not given any assurance in this regard.
As per the predetermined terms between the faction and the saffron party, BJP has assured them that it will field candidates nominated by the church in Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, Perumbavoor and Piravam constituencies.
