THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Those suggested by the High Command in the disputed constituencies of Congress will become candidates. The names under consideration are PC Vishnunath in Vattiyoorkavu, Balan Master in Kundara, T Siddique in Kalpetta, Riyas Mukoli in Thavanur, VV Prakash in Nilambur and Aryadan Shoukath in Pattambi. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said the announcement of the candidates would be made tomorrow evening.
The Congress today announced its candidates for 86 seats. More than 55 percent of the candidates are newcomers. Candidates from Kalpetta, Nilambur, Vattiyoorkavu, Kundara, Thavanur and Pattambi constituencies were not announced. Following the release of the list of candidates, there was a huge outcry in the Congress. The state president of the Mahila Congress had shaved her head at the KPCC headquarters in protest. She also resigned as President of the Mahila Congress. Former Pathanamthitta DCC president Mohan Raj had also resigned. Former Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat president Ramani P Nair has resigned as KPCC secretary and Lal Varghese as Kalpakwadi Karshaka Congress president. Former KPCC president VM Sudheeran had also came out against the list of candidates.
