KOZHIKODE: K P Kunjahammd Kutty will become CPM’s candidate in Kuttiadi. An official declaration of the party in this regard will be out soon. The Kozhikode district secretariat meet has recommended his name to the state secretariat for candidature in the constituency. Four persons’ names were considered for candidature in the Kuttiadi constituency including DYFI state secretary A A Rahim.
The district secretariat meet has decided to recommend Kunjhammed Kutty for candidature considering the party workers’ sentiments. The district leaders also indicated that the declaration of candidates will be made official today itself.
Initially, the seat was given to the Jose faction of the Kerala Congress, CPM’s ally in LDF. This led to massive protests and condemnation from the leaders and workers of CPM in Kuttiadi. The region also witnessed protest programmes with the participation of hundreds, where the state leadership of the party was openly challenged. Even though state leaders intervened to pacify the local workers, those efforts ended in vain.
As a result of the protests, Jose K Mani gave back the seat to CPM. If the Kerala Congress candidate was contesting there, CPM workers in the area were gearing up to field a rebel candidate. Kerala Congress had earlier decided to field Muhammed Iqbal in Kuttiadi.
