THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Writer KR Meera said that the time is not far when women will demand rights as an organized force. Former Mahila Congress president Lathika Subhash and BJP leader Sobha Surendran are to blame for this. Meera also wrote on Facebook that domination in the name of masculinity can only last as long as women transcend party politics and bargain for the rights they deserve as an organized force.
Meera said she has known Lathika for two decades. When I first met her, she was a journalist. He later quit her job for active political activity. Once when I went to the LIC office to renew the policy I saw standing in queue to pay agency amount. Despite her involvement in politics, Lathika was working as an insurance agent for a living and I felt respect towards her. Whenever I saw her late, she was in midst of some sort of strike. Meera said that Lathika's identity was one of level head and friendliness.
While working in a political party with male-dominance like the RSS, Sobha Surendran's protest, which has been going on for months, is shocking. Sobha has played a role in rooting the BJP in Kerala more than any other male leader in the party. For two decades, they have been running and preaching all over Kerala, watering down blood. She justifies the party in TV debates with all she has. Their energy is enviable. Meera says that she wished that all this energy was used for progressive ideas.
It is unfortunate to see the president of the women's wing of a national party that led the freedom struggle tonsure her head in protest at the party headquarters. Meera wrote on Facebook that her decision to fight alone was a political victory and wished Lathika and Sobha Surendran success.
