KOTTAYAM: Former Mahila Congress president Lathika Subhash has made it clear that she will contest as an independent candidate in Ettumanoor.
"I had called AK Antony and asked for the Ettumanoor seat. I told him I would shave my head if the seat is not given. Oommen Chandy said yesterday that Ettumanoor was given to the constituent party. When asked about the Vyppin seat, he did not give a clear answer", Lathika said.
Lathika Subhash also revealed that Mullappally Ramachandran said he will call but did not call back.
"The leaders did not ask me to contest anywhere other than Ettumanoor. All the brothers from the Kerala Congress Joseph faction who are coming to contest told me that they had no great compulsion to have Ettumanoor seat"
Lathika Subhash said that they had said that the Congress wants Kerala Congress to contest in Ettumanoor more than Kerala Congress themself.
"Party workers are helpless. I am saying, not as an individual but as a leader of an organization called Mahila Congress that Mahila Congress should have gotten consideration just like KSU and the Youth Congress", she said.
Latika Subhash said that no Congress leader had asked her to focus on any seat other than Ettumanoor except that the Joseph group was insisting on Ettumanoor seat and that she resigned from the party so that her sister can get the recognition.
"I had hope. None of the leaders I chanted slogans for understood my pain. I shaved my head because the leaders were empty of love", she added.
Latika Subhash said that after shaving her head, AK Antony, VM Sudheeran and PJ Kurien called her.
