THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, the Metropolitan of Niranam Diocese of Malankara Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church, said that the difference between the public/media attention when Lathika Subhash and the mother of Valayar children shaved their heads should not be overlooked. The inability of 'progressive' Kerala to connect the issues of gender justice with caste justice is proof that we are still ignoring the 'lower' issues. Not only the gender but also the caste of the shaved heads is important. Feminism alone is not enough, womanism should also be seen and discussed, Mar Coorilos wrote on Facebook. Along with the note, he also shared a screenshot of a report of Kerala Kaumudi English Online titled 'mother of Valayar girls shaves her head', which came on February 27.

Geevarghese Mar Coorilos' post:

I wrote here the other day about the neglect of women by political parties. Today we have seen the reactions that confirm it. Lathika Subhash's protest today was very strong. I also express my solidarity with her. But we must not lose sight of the difference between the media attention that came when Lathika Subhash shaved her head and the public/media attention that came when the mother of Valayar children shaved her head. The fact that "progressive" Kerala is still unable to connect the issues of gender justice with the caste system is proof that we still ignore the "lower" issues. It goes without saying that not only the gender but also the caste of the shaved heads is important. Feminism alone is not enough, womanism should also be seen and discussed.
