NEW DELHI: BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Monday has filed a complaint to the Election Commission against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and accusing her of "suppressing" information on criminal cases in her nomination papers.
Adhikari claimed that Mamata has not declared six criminal cases against her in the nomination paper for the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections.
In his complaint to the Election Commission, Suvendu alleged that the TMC supremo suppressed the information about five cases filed against her in Assam and another lodged by the CBI in West Bengal.
"The TMC candidate for the Nandigram assembly constituency, the honourable chief minister, in her affidavit has not mentioned at least six cases which are under trial against her. One is a CBI case and five others are in Assam," he said.
"I have appealed to the ECI (for rejecting her nomination). I hope they will take necessary action. I will wait and see what action they take. The action must be as per the law," Adhikari added.
Mamata Banerjee and her former confidante Suvendu filed their nomination last week from Nandigram. Mamata left her Bhowanipur seat in south Kolkata, from where she won the last two terms, to contest on a new turf.
Adhikari handsomely won from Nandigram on a TMC ticket in 2016, but switched to BJP last December. He cited the manner in which the TMC as functioning as the reason for his exit.
