ALAPPUZHA: CPI leader is the NDA candidate in Kuttanad. Thampi Mettuthara, CPI district council member and former Alappuzha district panchayat vice president, resigned from the party and joined the BDJS camp.

Thampi Mettuthara alleged that some leaders of the party had been haunting him for quite some time. He said that he resigned in protest against it. His resignation letter said the state leadership was not ready to discuss the complaint or take any action.

Thampi Mettuthara was one of the three candidates in Harippad seat of the CPI district council. Thampi Mettuthara mentioned in the resignation letter that state secretary Kanam Rajendran is a dictator and that the CPI had turned the B team of the CPM. Thampi Mettuthara is the son of late CPI leader Mettuthara Narayanan.
