KANNUR: With just days ahead of Kerala assembly polls, the infighting in Congress over the Irikkur assembly seat is going on. The unilateral declaration of Sajeev Joseph as Irukkur’s UDF candidate has agitated the local party workers, as he was fielded without consulting with the local Congress leaders. The ‘A’ group has also turned up against the candidature of Sajeev Joseph.

Even though UDF convenor M M Hassan and sitting MLA K C Joseph visited the constituency and held discussion with the agitating workers, no solution was derived to resolve the impasse. The local leadership rejected the state leaders’ plea to recognize Sajeev Joseph’s candidature.

The ‘A’’ group has demanded that Sajeev doesn’t have any winning chance and a leader with a high possibility of victory should enter into the poll fray. The A group has recommended Sony Sebastian’s name. As a part of a compromise formula, the DCC president post was offered to Soni, but that proposal was rejected by the group leaders.

The A group also alleges that K C Venugopal is behind the candidature of Sajeev Joseph in Irikkur. K Sudhakaran M P has also demanded to resolve the Irikkur issue via a compromise. Following Sajeev Joseph’s candidature, ‘A’ group has declared continuous day and night protests. Hassan has said that the talks have not failed and the feelings of the party workers will be communicated with the high command.

Meanwhile, everybody in the party is expecting the likelihood of K C Joseph’s candidature in Irrikur. Even the Congress leaders are spreading rumours that Joseph has received bail in all cases in order to file nomination. However, the senior leader has rejected the rumours and speculation over his candidature and said that the will not contest from Irikkur again.
