NEW DELHI: BJP leader Sobha Surendran will be the party's candidate in Kazhakoottam. It is learnt that Sobha was offered a seat in Kazhakoottam following the intervention of the Prime Minister's Office. The party central leadership has officially informed Sobha about this, sources said. However, the party is yet to make an official announcement regarding this.
The decision was taken by the party's central leadership by overlooking other objections within the party. According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had intervened and suggested that Sobha Surendran should be fielded as a candidate in Kazhakoottam. Sobha Surendran's name was not included in the list of candidates earlier handed over by the state unit to the central leadership.
During the election committee meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had asked why Sobha's name was not included in the list of candidates. Following this, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi contacted Sobha on the phone and Sobha informed him that she was ready to contest.
