NEW DELHI: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said that he still don’t know why Kadakampally Surendran expressed regret for the incidents that happened in 2018 on entry of women in Sabarimala. The party had taken a right stand on the issue. The party's policy is equality as mentioned in the constitution, he said while talking to a private channel.

Yechury said Kodiyeri did not resign from the party secretary post in the name of his son's case. He quit the post citing ill-health and his return will be based on his health condition. He also said the state unit should be vigilant against factionalism. Pinarayi Vijayan will be the chief minister if the party comes to power again. Steps would be taken in future to ensure women's representation, he said.

Yechury said the decision in Kuttiady was changed based on public opinion. It is not the first time the party had changed their decision after campaigning and there is nothing wrong in complying with the public opinion. The party need not have to analyse the issue of not giving seats including to Thomas Isaac. Yechury said he left Rajya Sabha based on term conditions. Yechury explained that there is nothing wrong in making mandatory two-term norm for leaders.
