KANNUR: BJP state president K Surendran has not been able to rise to become the leader of lakhs of people, senior BJP leader PP Mukundan said. "The party president should be the leader of lakhs. Surendran has not been able to rise to that level. Thousands went to jail for the movement and hundreds became inactive. Those who have worked for the movement since the Jana Sangh period are now inactive. Surendran has not been able to bring them back to the party, PP Mukundan said.

The BJP leader said this in an interview with a Malayalam media. He also opposed Surendran's action of using a helicopter for campaigning as he felt that a BJP activist should do campaign works in a simple manner. "Surendran may be using a helicopter as he is competing in two constituencies. However, workers at the grassroots level of the party might not like it," the senior BJP leader said.
