KOCHI: Dr Siju Vijayan's cinematic ambitions, which blossomed within the confines of his wheelchair, will come true on Friday. 'Insha', directed by this young homoeopathic doctor, will be played on the silver screens of KSFDC theatres today.

The film tells the story of 13-year-old Insha's wheelchair-bound dreams. Sitting in an electric wheelchair, Siju completed the film in 20 days. The film was shot in and around Arookutty, Siju's native place.

At the age of five, Siju got paralyzed below the waist after he developed a rare disease called spinal muscular atrophy. Soon, he developed a passion for cinema and spent a lot of time watching movies. After completing BSc Zoology from Maharaja's College, he joined Vidyadhiraja Homoeo College. During this period, he used his spare time to learn about cinema. Siju then gained confidence by directing short films. Gradually, he started dreaming about becoming a feature film director. Siju is also a great painter. The film was made by selling mural paintings.

The film will be screened in all the theatres of the Film Development Corporation once a day for one week. The number of shows will increase as more audiences arrive. Minister A.K. Balan facilitated the release of the film.

'Insha' stars child actors Prathana Sandeep, Aditya Rajesh, Mebin Isaac and Ananthu, along with Anil Perumbalam, Manek Shah and Arya Salim.
