VARKALA: A woman died after falling from the terrace of a three-storey flat with her baby. The six-month-old baby miraculously escaped with minor injuries. Nima, 25, the daughter of Edava natives Mukhtar and Zeenat, and the wife of Abu Fazal, who works in Dubai, died tragically. The baby, Nifa, fell on top of a pile of thermocol and old clothes. She only suffered minor bruising on the forehead.
The woman and child fell from the Nooljalal Residency near the Indian Overseas Bank in Madrasamukku in Edava. The incident took place at around 12 noon yesterday. Nima's father Mukhtar is in Qatar. Nima had been living here for three months with her mother Zeenat, sisters Sultana and Rizwana. They moved here after selling 'Ashir Manzil' near Press Junction in Edava. Their flat is on the third floor. Relatives said Nima had gone up to the terrace to play with the baby. The head of the young woman who fell down between two buildings was hit by sunshade and seriously injured.
Nima was rushed to a private hospital in Varkala by her mother and employees of a nearby shop, but could not be rescued. Hospital sources said Nima had six fractures to her head. The body was shifted to Paripally Medical College mortuary. Nima's sister Sultana was also in the flat at the time of the incident. Ayiroor police reached the spot and took further action. A case was registered for unnatural death.
