suresh-gopi

THRISSUR: The Congress has argued that Suresh Gopi, the MP nominated by the President, cannot contest the elections under the party symbol. According to TN Prathapan MP, there is a section in law to disqualify Suresh Gopi as per the discussions with advocates in the Supreme Court and the High Court. "Do not tarnish that position if nominated by the President. It will be questioned if that happened", Prathapan said.

According to Congress leaders, the nominee is disqualified if he joins the party or contests. Earlier in the Lok Sabha elections, this condition was not known and that is why no complaint was lodged against Suresh Gopi. The Congress leaders said they would lodge a complaint with the President, the Vice President or the Central Election Commission tomorrow. The Congress said it was ready for a legal battle.

But BJP leader B Gopalakrishnan said the Congress leaders' claim was absurd. With Suresh Gopi coming to contest, the Congress leaders are in a dilemma. Similar incidents have taken place in Punjab and Rajasthan in the past. At that time, members of Congress were contesting. The Congress argument does not exist legally. B Gopalakrishnan said that the knees and legs of the Congress were shaking. He said taking legal action against Suresh Gopi was a denial of democratic rights.
