THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: High command has issued strong directions to the state leadership to heighten the campaign for assembly polls. High command has issued the new set of directions as a new set of survey results has hit the media. The national leadership thinks that UDF is far behind others in all sectors on the poll campaigns including the social media campaign. Whereas the left front is far ahead in the ad campaigns launched ahead of the polls. The party leadership also holds the opinion UDF is not able to stand against the ruling LDF who is campaigning on the sole premise of development.
Only two weeks are left for the polls. The reports received to high command say that the UDF’s campaign activities are going on without any discipline and systematic effort. Even though the front has not seriously considered the exit of Jose K Mani, the haphazard condition of the Joseph group who are still groping in the dark without an election symbol is a grave concern for the right front.
The national leadership has earlier informed state leadership that the Congress party which is contesting in 90 seats must win at least 50 seats. Even though the party has issued a revolutionary candidates’ list giving prominence to women and youth, the party insiders claim without effective campaigning, UDF will not rose to power.
Concerns of the high command
In 2001, UDF came back to power with 99 seats. Congress which contested in 88 seats made a record victory by securing 63 seats. But in the subsequent elections, Congress failed to emulate its performance in 2001.
Congress was not able to win at least 40 seats in the last three assembly polls. Therefore the high command is concerned on how such a party will win 50 seats this time.
