THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM polit bureau member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that NSS has not taken an opportunist stand on Sabarimala. NSS had only one stand over the issue since the beginning. They have the right to take a stand on the issue.
Kodiyeri further said that BJP and Congress are once again using the Sabarimala issue during the election time to create an anti-incumbency wave against the government. “It has become difficult to differentiate the campaign of BJP and Congress. The Left front has a clear stand on the Sabarimala issue,” he said.
“The government is not interested in a fight over the Sabarimala issue. Till the 1990s, women of all ages went to Sabarimala. The government has never shown any haste in implementing the court orders. Even if it is the verdict of the Supreme Court, it could only be implemented after detailed discussions,” Kodiyeri opined.
Meanwhile, CPI general secretary Kanam Rajendran has said yesterday that NSS failed in the court over the Sabarimala case and now they are fighting by mobilizing the people against the government. Even the chief minister supported Kanam’s statement today. CPM national general secretary Sitaram Yechury had also opined that CPM and the left government have taken the right stand over the Sabarimala issue.
