PALAKKAD: E Sreedharan has finally responded over the feet cleansing controversy. “The practice of cleansing one’s feet and respecting elders is part of Indian culture. Those who make it a controversy should be considered as cultureless,” he said. During the campaigning, some kneeled before him and certain others cleansed his feet. Several persons, including women, touched his feet.

Later criticisms erupted from various quarters which said that it indicates primitive values and it also indicates casteism and upper caste (Savarna) attitude. CPI leader Binoy VIshwam has opined today morning that the feet cleansing incident shows in which direction does the BJP will lead the country. “Sreedharan is cleansing his feet with the voters and he glorifies the incident. This is anti-democratic and unconstitutional. This incident is shocking,” he said.
