KANNUR: The BJP state leadership has entered into a crisis, with the nomination papers of its candidates getting rejected in Talassery, Devikulam, and Guruvayoor constituencies. The state leaders are puzzled over what justification could be given to pacify the central leadership.
In 2016, BJP got the highest votes in Kannur from the Talassery constituency. Sajeevan who contested for BJP in the last assembly polls secured 22,125 votes and today, the BJP district chief’s nomination papers got rejected from Talassery.
The peculiar situation where the party has no candidate has arisen when union minister Amit Shah is set to visit the constituency on 25th of this month. The workers criticize that the lackadaisical attitude of the party leaders is the reason for the current issue. When a national party’s candidate contests, form A should have the name and signature of the party’s national president. But on the nomination papers submitted by N Haridas only had the official seal. Along with him, the party’s dummy candidate’s papers were also rejected.
BJP has decided to enter into a legal battle over the cancellation of nomination papers. BJP has high hopes over the Talassery constituency. That is why, this time they fielded the district president himself. Haridas has submitted the nomination papers before sub-collector Anu Kumari. LDF’s sitting MLA A N Shamseer and UDF’s K P Aravindakshan are other candidates seeking the people’s mandate in Talassery.
