THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A bike used by a gang of three got trapped in a railway track and was hit by a train here. Due to the incident, the train service was delayed half an hour. The youths fled the scene and were caught by the railway police before early morning. The youths in railway police custody have been identified as Varkala natives Sajir (22), Sulan (19) and Tijith (21). The incident took place on Friday night in between Varkala and Kadakkavoor.
According to the police, the youths have a criminal background and hails from Varkala. One of them went to see his lover in the middle of the night and rode the bike through a railway track. The bike's wheel got trapped in the plate of the railway track. While trying to free the bike, they saw an oncoming Chennai Egmore-Guruvayur Express and left the bike in the middle of the track. The train hit the bike and it was completely destroyed. The engine driver informed this to the nearby station and the RPF.
A team led by RPF commissioner Gopakumar took the bike into custody. They found the accused on the basis of a probe conducted using the bike's number plate. The police said this bike was given by Sajir's friend two days back for repair. The bike's owner only came to know about the incident when the police told. Later, Sajir and others were caught with the information given by the bike's owner. The accused confessed to their crime during interrogation. They were taken into custody by the RPF and was shifted to the RPF station. The accused will appear in court on Saturday.
