ALUVA: Two persons have been arrested for trying to smuggle 48 kg of ganja on a train pretending to be Human Rights Commission officials. Aluva Excise Range Inspector R Ajiraj and Railway Protection Force (RPF) sub-inspector PV Raju arrested Malappuram native Thottunagappurakkal Nidhinnath, 26, and Karnataka native Sudheer Krishnan, 45, on their way to Ernakulam from Andhra Pradesh.
The passenger was wearing a fake ID card of the Human Rights Commission officials in the AC compartment. On questioning their cover was blown. The aim was to hand over the cannabis brought from Visakhapatnam to the Idukki native in Kochi.
A special team was formed at the Aluva Excise Range under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Ernakulam to check the supply of drugs by train.
The accused were arrested along with Excise Preventive Officer (General) NG Ajit Kumar and Civil Excise Officers ND Tommy, KR Ratheesh, Shirish Krishnan, S Anoop, PU Neethu and KM Thasiya.
