THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI mouthpiece Janayugam has blamed the election commission for the dual votes controversy. The mouthpiece has mentioned that if a person has more than a voter identity card, then the responsibility is for the election commission. Even the government cannot intervene in it. The election officials should give importance in preparing a flawless voters list. The mouthpiece criticised opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala who first raised the complaint on dual votes. It said his press meets can be seen as a street circus.

Excerpts from the mouthpiece
The chief electoral officer of Kerala in a press meet said that this is not the first time double vote has been detected and will continue checking in all constituencies. This is a process that goes through many hands from adding name in the voters list to printing and then taking it to the polling booth for the final steps. Blaming the political parties for finding its flaws is mean. Checking the voters list and serious corrections are within the purview of the election commission. The question of the election official as to whether the political parties were asleep when given time to raise objections shouldn’t have been asked even to the opposition leader.

Opposition leader’s constant voter list controversy can be seen as a food for the centre. The way the opposition leader handles this issue will be a threat to democracy. His press meet can be considered as street circus to convince his own party and the front. The congress candidate in Kaipamangalm constituency has votes in three places. He has two identity cards also. Chennithala said this was a lapse of the officials.
