KOCHI: The Kerala High Court sought an explanation from the election commission on the plea of opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala against dual votes. The court postponed to Monday considering the plea. Chennithala demanded that the issue be taken seriously and to consider the plea as a matter of urgency. The court first said the case would be considered at 12 noon and later postponed after seeking an explanation from the commission.

Chennithala in his plea pointed that though five letters were sent to the Election Commission demanding to take steps to remove the dual votes, no effective action was taken. Action was taken against only one official who colluded to commit the fraud. This is to put dust in the eyes of the people. Action was not taken against more officials responsible for the act. The plea mentioned that in this situation the court should immediately intervene in the matter.

Ramesh Chennithala's plea said that there are 4,34,042 fake or double votes in 131 assembly constituencies in the state. This was not done by only one person. This is an organised activity of the officials. Therefore, dual votes should be frozen, the plea said.
