KOCHI: The government decided to appoint a judicial commission to examine the allegations against the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Justice V K Mohanan is the commission chief. The decision was taken at today’s cabinet meet.
The state government tightened their stand after the crime branch registered a case against the officials of ED. Accused in the gold smuggling case Swapna Suresh’s audio clips, Sarith’s letter are among five important issues to be considered by the commission.
The most important of these is the audio clip of Swapna Suresh. Along with that the conspiracy that arose related to it, pressure from the side of the ED to testify against the chief minister and if pressure budged then who all are behind it, whether there was any conspiracy behind it. All these will be considered by the commission. The judicial commission is appointed to report to the government on matters including the action to be taken against those involved in the conspiracy.
The approval of the election commission is needed to release the order appointing Justice V K Mohanan as the commission chief. The decision was taken by the cabinet convened in the wake of the elections announced. So, the government order will be issued only after getting the approval of the election commission.
