THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has said that Savarkar, Golwalkar and Deendayal Upadhyay rejected the constitution when it came into force. They said that the people are the nation and India is the nation of the Hindus. He said in an interview to an online media that he had nothing to do with it and that Hinduism is his personal belief.
"Hindutva is a political ideology. Our Constitution states that this is India where democratic system. Caste, religion, language and color do not matter there. Any citizen can live without any discrimination", he said.
Tharoor also said that RSS ideologues Savarkar, Golwalkar and Deendayal Upadhyay had rejected the constitution when it came into force.
"They said this was not right. India is not a region according to their ideology. They said that the people are the nation and India is the nation of the Hindus. I have nothing to do with this. Hinduism is my personal belief", Tharoor added.
Tharoor made it clear that his political beliefs are the opposite which he learned from Swami Vivekananda.
"Communalism has alienated the BJP. I can't get along with communalism. I am a Hindu believer. But that is not Hindutva. Faith is a personal matter", he said.
Tharoor said that it was the lack of communalism and economic policies that brought him closer to the Congress.
