KOLKATA/MIDNAPORE: A missing “BJP worker” was found hanging from a tree in West Midnapore on Friday while four Trinamool men were injured in a bomb blast in Bankura in the latest spurt of political violence on the eve of assembly elections in Bengal.
The body of Lalmohan Soren, 30, was found near his house at Jora Kusmi in Bagmari under Salboni police station limits. His wife Fulmani claimed he was not involved in politics, but said he had been missing for the past few days.
Local BJP leader Shamit Das said, “Trinamool (goons) killed him and hanged his body from the tree to intimidate both voters and BJP workers.” Party state president Dilip Ghosh said Trinamool’s “khela hobe” was “a game of hanging people”.
Biswanath Pandab, TMC president of Midnapore city, junked the allegations and said: “Trinamool workers were not involved.”
The BJP, however, claimed four party workers were killed in the past 72 hours. The party’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted: “This is 4th murder in the last 72 hours! Is this Pishi’s idea of ‘Khela Hobe’?”
On Thursday, the bodies of two BJP workers — Pratap Barman and Dipankar Biswas —- were found in Santipur, Nadia.
On Friday afternoon, a blast ripped through the Trinamool office in Joypur, Bankura, in which four persons were injured. Two of them are said to be critical. Minister of state and TMC leader Shyamal Santra said CPM-ISF workers, backed by BJP, attacked their party office.
