The strength and growth of mafia gangs is evident from the fact that the police team that went to capture the goons near the Karnataka border in Manjeshwaram was counter-attacked and eventually they had to return empty-handed.
Manjeswaram SI was injured in the goonda attack. One of the goons fired, but fortunately he was knocked off by the door of the jeep and the police were not in danger. Since the evening, the police team had been on the lookout for goons. The assailants rushed to the vehicle to attack police in cinema style. Eventually, the Karnataka police managed to nab three members of the gang who had entered Karnataka. The alleged goon chief escaped unharmed. Police seized 110 kg of cannabis, drugs and a gun from a car found abandoned on the roadside while chasing the goons, which is further evidence of the goons' underworld activities.
There are many examples of such goons gaining strength not only in Manjeswaram but also in many parts of the state in recent times. Suppressing such groups is essential to maintain peace and tranquility in the country. However, law enforcers are sometimes seen failing in their mission. The reason for this is that the goonda-mafia gangs are in an amicable relationship with police and politicians. Until this relationship is severed, they will continue to pose a threat to society as a whole. The underworld gangs have played a major role in creating the conditions for the availability of cannabis and drugs across the state. During the inspections, a large quantity of illicit drugs, including cannabis, was seized on a daily basis. The biggest challenge facing the state is that the trafficking and sale of narcotics is a serious crime but the number of those involved is not decreasing but increasing. This underworld gang is pushing so many people into the abyss. The big danger is that even school children fall into their trap.
As the Assembly election campaign approaches its climax, the police will now have lots of job. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the underworld groups will make every effort to fatten the trade. This is one of the reasons why drugs, cannabis and black money are being seized on a daily basis in many parts of the country. The invisible presence and involvement of these groups in the election campaign needs to be strictly prevented. This will be possible only if the political leadership strongly intervenes with the law enforcers. The involvement of underworld groups in Kerala is less than that n other states where elections are being held. People everywhere have kept their eyes and ears open so the chances of game plans are less. But, goons and anti-socials will try to make the most of this opportunity. Failure to prevent it will only turn harmful to the community as a whole.
