KOCHI: The government will approach the high court against the Election Commission’s action of blocking the distribution of rice. The plea will mention that the order for the distribution of rice was issued even before the code of conduct came into force.
The government claimed that rice has been distributed in this manner before and it was announced in the budget. The Election Commission banned the decision to give 10 kg of special rice to white and blue card holders for Rs 15. The action was taken following a complaint lodged by the opposition.
The government issued the order for the distribution of rice before election notification. Distribution was delayed as rice was delivered late. When the rice was delivered, the government approached the Election Commission for the distribution as the election notification was issued. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala lodged a complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer alleging breach of code of conduct.
