THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Election Commission said there are only 38,586 dual votes in the state. The Election Commission informed this in response to the plea of opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala seeking to freeze double votes. The opposition leader filed a plea in the high court pointing that there are around 4,30,000 dual and fake votes.

The commission said only 38,586 dual votes were found in an examination conducted by BLOs. The BLOs will pass information on those having double votes to the presiding officers. The Election Commission informed the high court the other day that there are double votes in the voters' list. The commission has made it clear that they have an obligation to maintain the purity of the election and to conduct the election impartially. However, the commission told the court that it is not possible to change the voters list again.

The opposition leader submitted four proposals to stop double voting. The BLOs should get in writing from the voter at which booth they are casting their vote, should get in writing that they have cast only one vote and then it should be handed over to the presiding officer, the photo of the voter after casting vote should be kept in the sever of the election commission, these are the proposals of the opposition leader.
