THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the last lap of the election campaign, aggressiveness and tenacity have reached the climax as the fronts sharpened their allegations. The latest controversy comes after the Leader of the Opposition challenged the Election Commission and released a list of 4.34 lakh fake voters through a website.
CPM politburo member MA Baby has paved the way for a new turn in the dual vote controversy by alleging that information, including a photo of voters, was leaked through the Singapore-based company's website without their permission. The CPM is trying to hit back at Ramesh Chennithala, who put CPM in the backfoot in Sprinklr data collection controversy, with a similar allegation.
However, Chennithala said that he had released the data which was available to anyone. However, CPM Central Committee member Elamaram Kareem alleged that most of the double votes claimed by Chennithala belong to twin brothers. When the Congress came out against the inclusion of the name of the late CPM leader PK Kunhanandan in the voters' list, his family members revealed that they had earlier asked for the name to be removed.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes again today, the scale of aggression and counter-attacks may change again. Priyanka Gandhi will arrive tomorrow for the campaign of K Muraleedharan who is contesting from Nemom. Prominent leaders of the CPM and the CPI are campaigning all over Kerala.
The active campaign ends on Sunday which is Easter day. Even on Good Friday, many candidates have taken a leave of absence from the campaign. The silent campaign will be on Monday. Left candidates will go on home visits from today. The constituency tours of UDF and NDA candidates are in the final stages.
In many areas where the fronts initially considered safe havens, the under current changed the picture as the campaign reached the final stage. The result in many constituencies is unpredictable as it has become a hotly contested triangular competition. Many constituencies in the southern districts, which last time supported the Left Front and dealt a heavy blow to the UDF, went into close fights. The situation is no different in districts like Thrissur and Palakkad which supported the Left.
The wait for the bomb to explode
In the last hours, Kerala is looking forward to the Chief Minister's bomb allegation. The Chief Minister, who had said in Kasaragod yesterday that a bomb would explode the next day, reiterated in Kannur yesterday that many weapons are being prepared backstage. There is also an assessment that the Chief Minister has a strategy of retaliating in advance of a possible attack.
Vote of the deceased PK Kunhanandan
PANUR: UDF leaders at a press conference said that the deceased CPM leader PK Kunhanandan who had vote in booth 67 in the Koothuparamba constituency still has his name in the voter's list. They alleged that there are thousands of similar votes in Koothuparamba and the authorities denied to remove the names even after giving application.
