KOLLAM: If the treasury was empty when the LDF government came to power, its term would end with a treasury surplus of at least Rs 5,000 crore, Finance Minister Thomas Isaac said on Thursday. Despite the pandemic, all payments were made through clear financial management at the end of the financial year. Borrowing has declined by Rs 2,000 crore this year. So next
year's financial management will be smooth.
Record payments were made in the last ten days. A total of Rs 23,202 crore was paid in 3,75,171 bills. In the last three days alone, Rs 5,000 crore was disbursed by the treasury.
In the last three financial years, the departments have taken back Rs 7,000 crore which was kept in treasury accounts without being spent by March 31 for various reasons. If it had not done so, the central government would have cut that amount from next year's debt. This amount will be refunded this month itself, the minister said.
Some of the clients have been facing difficulties due to the congestion in the treasury computer network on the last day. Such amounts will be paid after this month's salary distribution.
Revised salary and pension will be paid within three days. The treasuries have been directed to keep separate the amount to be disbursed to the pensioners in view of the bank holidays in the first days.
