IDUKKI: 12 people, who were travelling from Udumbanchola to Tamil Nadu were stopped by BJP workers who alleged that they were brought to cast bogus votes in the Assembly polls that took place on Tuesday. The jeeps in which the 12 were travelling were blocked by local BJP leaders at Nedumkandam. The travellers had claimed that they had come to the state to attend a funeral, However, BJP activists handed over a liquid bottle and a cotton swab to the police, claiming that it was recovered from the travellers. Following this, the travellers were taken into police custody.

According to the BJP leaders, the travellers were brought through forest roads to cast fake votes in Udumbanchola. The travellers, including 8 women, are currently in the custody of the Nedumkandam police. Tensions erupted in Nedumkandam when Congress workers came out in support of the BJP in the incident. Several vehicles were stopped by both groups at the border. Two vehicles coming from Tamil Nadu were pelted with stones.
