THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF, LDF and NDA have claimed that the increase in polling percentage will be in their favour. The voter turnout in the last assembly elections was 77.53 per cent. It is hoped that it will be surpassed when the final figures are available this time. The turnout in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections was 77.84 per cent.

The UDF believes that despite the maximum freeze on double votes and the prevention of fraudulent votes, the high turnout is a reflection of public sentiment against the government. According to the UDF, the turnout was high due to strong anti-government sentiment and a change of government is imminent. The opposition believes that the gold smuggling case, backdoor appointments and corruption allegations against the government will turn things in their favour. The UDF also hopes that the new voters will also favour the UDF.

At the same time, LDF leaders said that the increase in polling percentage reflects the public's desire for the continuity of the government. If in the past the increase in polling was in favor of the UDF, now that trend has changed. This is the first election without strong anti-government sentiment. As the BJP is also highly competitive, the split in anti-government sentiment will also favor the LDF.

The BJP and the NDA, which had brought in national leaders and union ministers for campaigning, have no shortage of expectations. BJP state president K Surendran said high turnout will benefit the NDA. The BJP said that the Sabarimala sentiment will turn against the government and that there is no point in regretting it after showing all kinds of atrocities against the devotees. They also claim that the change in politics, which is polarized on both fronts, is an indication that the BJP is becoming a political force in the state. The BJP leaders have expressed hope that the party will win 3-6 seats this time.
