KANNUR: KM Shaji MLA explained that the money found by the vigilance team from his house was collected from many people for election purposes. It also includes money given by the party. Shaji said that he had only Rs 40 lakh at home.

The money spent on the election campaign had not been paid in full. Vigilance seized the money set aside for this. Shaji said that the vigilance came to trap him knowing that money was in the house.

Earlier, Vigilance had said that Shaji had said that the money was for a relative's land deal. They added that Shaji had asked for a day to produce the documents.

Vigilance raided houses in Kozhikode and Kannur sands in connection with illegal acquisition of assets case. The money was seized from the house in Kannur.
