ALAPPUZHA: A history-sheeter was beaten to death at Kunuthara near Kainakary in Alappuzha on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Kunnuthara native Abhilash (39). Police have arrested 4 men in connection with the incident. The arrested men are Maju, Jayesh, Ajesh and Suresh. Abhilash was a BJP supporter while Maju is a CPM supporter. Abhilash is an accused in several cases. He is also accused in the case of attacking a film crew at Kuttanad.

According to police, Maju was a former member of Abhilash's gang. The incident took place at 9.30 pm on Sunday near the house of Abhilash's wife. Police said that Abhilash first got involved in a tussle with Maju and his gang members at Kainakary junction. Following this, Maju's gang followed Abhilash and attacked him. The goons fled the scene after Abhilash fell unconscious. Abhilash, who suffered serious injuries, was soon rushed to the hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries by around 11 pm.

The police team led by Nedumudi CI Shanthakumar has intensified the investigation. Abhilash's body was shifted to the mortuary of the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. He has a 10-year-old son.
