THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The mutated strain of the new covid variant has been found in many districts of Kerala. With this, the possibility for Covid 19 has come up even among those who have taken the two doses of vaccine. The new virus strain was discovered in Kerala by the study conducted by CSIR-Institute of Genomic and Integrated Biology(IGIB) as per the directions of the state government.

In the study, the presence of the N440 K virus was discovered from many districts in the state. IGIB points out that the new virus strain that can surpass all preventive measures could become fatal. This virus was also found in Odisha, Chhattisgarh and in Andhra Pradesh during the second phase of the pandemic outbreak.

Earlier the mutated strain of the covid 19 virus was reported in European countries. India has also adopted measures to counter it but the presence of the new virus strain shows that those measures have not yielded any results.

Meanwhile, per day covid 19 cases in the country have crossed 1.5 lakh mark. The WHO which expressed concern over the rapid spread of the pandemic in countries including India has said that existing health infrastructure is facing grave threat under the new virus strain.
