THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Five have been nabbed by the police in connection with stealing gold worth 100 sovereigns from a merchant in Pallipuram. Police have taken into custody natives of Perumatura and Pallipuram along with the vehicle used by them. On Tuesday, police have received the CCTV visuals of the burglars. The police were able to nab the accused after launching a probe based on CCTV visuals. The accused are being questioned in Kilimanoor police station. Police have also informed that they have further intensified the investigation to arrest the remaining thieves.

The theft held near Mangalapuram Kurekad technocity at 8 pm the last Friday. The gold was stolen after blocking the car in which gold merchant Sampath and the other two were travelling. The gang has attacked Sampath from Maharashtra, who makes gold ornaments and sells them to jewellery shops, driver Arun and Sampath’s relative Lakshmanan. The gang of burglars were following them in another vehicle. Sampath and his relative were en route to Attingal when the theft happened.
