THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The new government has to take a decision to increase the water tax. The government had decided to raise the water tariff last January but temporarily froze it, fearing it would affect the election. After the election, Water Authority officials initiated move for action. But this government cannot issue a new order as the code of conduct exists.

The Water Authority does not have the funds to implement the central government's projects, including rural aquaculture. The Center has suggested an increase in revenue in order to provide loans to the loss-making institution. This is also to ensure that the money is refunded. Based on this, it was decided to increase the water tax.
