THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress mouthpiece, Veekshanam has welcomed Cheriyan Philip back to the Congress party. Its editorial says that if he is ready to correct mistakes and atones his lapses, he will be given due importance in the party.

The editorial begins with the line— “CPM has once again fooled Cheriyan Philip- the unavailing Congressman by fielding him as a Congress rebel.” CPM has betrayed Cheriyan twice by assuring him Rajya Sabha seat. The mouthpiece also criticised that his position in CPM is that of a ‘caged monkey.’

Cheriyan Philip who is now sitting on CPM’s kitchen floor earlier had a chair in the Congress party’s living room. The allegations unleashed by Cheriyan against Antony and Oommen Chandy had surpassed even basic courtesy and political dignity. The editorial which alleged that CPM had a double stand in accepting rebels also added that it had shown a step-motherly attitude to Cheriyan Philip.

The newspaper further adds that Cheriyan Philip who betrayed the Congress party later got fooled by CPM. It has also alleged that CPM is like a witch that thrives on the blood of leaders who defect to the left party. They only exploit such persons and sideline them after their political goals are fulfilled. Following the declaration of CPM’s Rajya Sabha candidate, Cheriyan Philip through his Facebook post has said that he is leaving active politics and has decided to devote more time to writing books. The Congress mouthpiece has written the editorial on the basis of it.
