THRISSUR: The devaswoms have agreed to tighten restrictions for conducting Thrissur Pooram. How to hold the Pooram without the transmission of Covid should be thought? The devaswoms will inform the chief secretary that they are ready to hold the Pooram according to the decision of the special medical team. The chief secretary has called a press meet at 4 pm in the evening.

The main plan now is to hold the Pooram after avoiding the spectators. The present decision is to conduct the fest with the participation of only a few organisers, mahouts and percussionists. Devaswom representatives said that arrangements will be made for the spectators to watch it live through visual and social media.

Officials appointed by the government are holding discussions with the representatives of the devaswom board. It has been indicated that the controversy surrounding the conduct of Pooram forced the devaswoms to change their stand. There were criticisms on social media and in the society that large crowd for the Pooram will lead to a massive spread of the disease.

The devaswoms who were adamant on holding Pooram, have now softened their stance following the discussions held with the government officials. A final decision will be taken at the meeting convened by the chief secretary at 4 pm. It would be a great relief to the health department and the district administration if spectators are avoided for Pooram.
