KOCHI: Vaiga's father Sanu Mohan on Monday confessed to killing his daughter and told the police that he had suffocated her before throwing her into the Muttar river. According to Sanu, he decided to kill his daughter and commit suicide because of his financial difficulties. While he managed to throw Vaiga into the river, he backed off from jumping into the river due to fear.

Sanu's statement is as follows: After reaching the flat with Vaiga, he told her that they are going to die together. He also told Vaiga that her mother will be taken care of by her family. When Vaiga attempted to get out of the flat, he hugged her tightly and suffocated her till she fell unconscious. Blood flowed from Vaiga's nose. Soon, he wrapped her in a bedsheet and laid her in the car. He then reached the Muttar river and threw her into the river. He said that he decided to kill his daughter as he did not want her to be left abandoned after his death. Sanu was arrested on Sunday morning from Karwar in Karnataka. After being brought to Kochi for questioning, the accused was produced in the Thrikkakara court and remanded in police custody for 10 days.

The police concluded that Vaiga's death was a premeditated murder. The murder was not committed due to sudden despair and grief. Sanu had not used his mobile phone since March 21 until his arrest. He had remained in hiding for nearly a month without leaving any traces to follow him, the police said.
