THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister decided to tighten rules in the state amid a spike in Covid cases day by day. More sector officers and police will be deployed for preventing the disease and controlling it. Normal shops outside the cantonment zone will be opened till 9 pm. Only half of the employees need to work in government offices. The government has directed to implement work from home system in the private sector as well.

A decision has been taken to introduce online registration for the distribution of vaccine. Education has been fully made online. There will be strict restrictions on Saturdays and Sundays. Only essential services would be allowed on these days. A holiday has been given to government offices on coming Saturday.

There are three lakh vaccine stock in the state. More are needed. Three lakh people will be tested in two days. Sector officers and police will keenly monitor those testing positive and those coming in contact with them and also people coming from other states.

The state government has asked centre for 50 lakh doses of vaccine to make vaccination effective. The state will get 5.5 lakh vaccine including 2.5 lakh for Thiruvananthapuram region. The meeting that convened here assessed that the number of patients per day would reach 50,000 by the end of this month under the present situation. The chief minister will hold a special press meet at 6 pm today to inform more restrictions.
