THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state confirmed 22,414 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. This is the highest single-day spike in Kerala since the pandemic began. Among these, 20,771 persons developed the disease through contact including 1332 cases without an identified source of infection. 206 persons, who came from outside the state, tested positive for the virus. 105 health workers contracted the disease on Wednesday.
5431 patients tested negative for the virus today. As of now, there are 1,35,631 active cases in the state.
The state confirmed 22 deaths due to the virus on Tuesday with the toll rising to 5000.

As part of the mass testing, 3,00,971 samples were collected on Friday and Saturday from different parts of the state. Including this, 1,21,763 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate stands at 18.41.
With the addition of 18 new regions, there are 511 hotspots in the state.
