NEW DELHI: Ashish Yechury (34), eldest son of CPM national general secretary Sitaram Yechury, died of Covid-19. He was undergoing treatment for the disease at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. He died Thursday morning at 6 am. He was a journalist and was presently working as a senior copy editor in a noted daily in New Delhi. He had worked in Times of India, Asiaville and News 18.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform that I lost my elder son, Ashish Yechury to COVID-19 this morning. I want to thank all those who gave us hope and who treated him - doctors, nurses, frontline health workers, sanitation workers and innumerable others who stood by us.

He contracted the disease two weeks ago. He was first admitted at Holy Family Hospital but later shifted to Medanta Hospital after his condition deteriorated. He is survived by his mother Indrani Masumdar, sister Akhila and wife Swati.

Yechury is in home quarantine now. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death of Ashish.
