THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Although the government has imposed strict restrictions on Saturdays and Sundays due to the surge of Covid in the state, 60% of the long-distance services and ordinary services operated by KSRTC on Sundays will be operated on April 24 and 25 (Saturdays and Sundays) as per the government directives. Before the second wave of Covid surge, about 2,300 buses were in service on Sundays.
About 60% of these services are operated these days. CMD Biju Prabhakar IAS said that services will be ensured for students appearing for the Higher Secondary examination to reach the examination centers on time and for passengers arriving at the airport, railway station and hospitals.
At the same time, though it isn't necessary to declare leave for KSRTC employees on April 24 as per Government Order (GO) 378/21 issued on 21st April as KSRTC is an essential service, due to the surge in Covid and reduction in services, it will be a holiday for employees in all department on Saturday, CMD informed. The CMD also said that the employees of the mechanical and operating departments working on this day would be given another day of compensatory leave.
