NEW DELHI: The central government has said that Uttar Pradesh is likely to surpass Maharashtra in the number of daily COVID cases to become the worst-hit state in India by the end of April. According to the Centre, the state is likely to report 119000 daily cases by April 30. The Centre also warned that the daily number of cases reported by Kerala will rise up to 39,000 by the end of this month.
The shocking report was presented by NITI Aayog member Dr. VK Paul during a meeting that was attended by the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers of various states.
The situation is critical in 10 states. It warns that medical facilities will not be adequate and deaths will increase if the number of patients increases. Although Kerala ranks seventh, Ernakulam district has the highest number of patients in the country.
The increase in the number of patients in the next week was calculated on the basis of the figures reported in the last week. A local lockdown will be recommended if the number of patients increases.
If the COVID chain does not break, the situation in these states will become extremely critical. In states such as Delhi, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, the daily number of cases is likely to exceed half a lakh.
