NEW DELHI: MPs have written to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court seeking shifting of Siddique Kappan, a journalist jailed in Uttar Pradesh on UAPA charges, to the Delhi AIIMS for better treatment. The letter was sent by 11 UDF MPs from Kerala. In the letter, the MPs said that the condition of Kappan is extremely bad and that his plea should be considered immediately.

MPs K. Sudhakaran, K. Muraleedharan, E.T. Muhammad Basheer, Benny Behanan, VK Sreekandan, Remya Haridas, T.N. Prathapan, Dean Kuriakose, Anto Antony, NK Premachandran and PV Abdul Wahab wrote the letter to the Chief Justice. Siddique Kappan, who has tested positive for Covid, is staying at Mathura Medical College with a broken jaw. The letter also states that he was chained like an animal. The letter said Kappan's current condition is "extremely serious" and that he should be transferred to AIIMS for better treatment on humanitarian grounds.

Kappan's wife Raihana earlier came to the fore requesting the Chief Minister to take immediate action on Kappan's current situation. His family had approached the apex court yesterday seeking proper treatment and removal of Kappan from the existing hospital.
