LOS ANGELES: When the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony takes place in Los Angeles, world cinema will be all ears for some historical moments. The ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theater at 5.30 am Indian time today. The main feature is that two women-Chloe Zhao and Emerald Fennell- will be competing for the Best Director award. Chloe Zhao, of Chinese descent, is the first Asian woman to receive the nomination. She received the nomination for her film 'Nomadland'. Emerald Fennel, who directed 'Promising Young Woman', is a famous British actress and director.
There are also two people of Asian descent in the Best Actor competition. Riz Ahmed, who has his roots in Pakistan, and Steven Yeun, a Korean. Riz Ahmed is the first member of the Muslim community and the first Pakistani to receive the nomination. It would be history if 'Black Panther'-star Chadwick Boseman, who died of cancer, wins the Best Actor award. Another nominee for the Best Actor award is Anthony Hopkins. He was nominated for his performance in the film 'The Father'. If 83-year-old Anthony Hopkins wins, he will be the oldest actor to win an Oscar.
