THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Despite the huge increase in the number of covid cases, the possibility for oxygen scarcity is negligible in Kerala. As of now, the state is producing liquid oxygen which is more than three times its actual requirements. After meeting its needs, Kerala is also giving surplus oxygen cylinders to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
As of now, Kerala’s requirement is only 79 tonnes of oxygen. Most of them are made by Innox air company of Jain Group, which is currently functioning in Kanjikode, Palakkad. 147 tonnes of oxygen are produced here per day.
KMML, a public sector undertaking in Chavara generates 7 tonnes of oxygen and the Cochin shipyard produces 5.45 tonnes of oxygen on a daily basis. Bharat Petroleum limited is able to produce 0.322 tonnes of oxygen and the other 11 air separation units in the state produce 44 tonnes of oxygen in the state.
